Powerlifting Questionnaire - 8/09/2005

1. What is your name, age and profession?

Carl Rogers,
I own a finance company that provides mortgages for commercial and residential. We also do a lot of private real estate investments.

2. Give us a BRIEF lifting history including your best lifts/total.

I began lifting when I was about 14. I bought a book with Arnold in it and thought I wanted to get big and strong. Looking back it is kind of humorous how we see things when we first get into a sport like weightlifting and especially if you are young.

3. Give us a brief template of your training week.

Mon. ME Squats and assistance

Tues. SPEED Bench and assistance

Thurs. SPEED Squat or Deadlifts

Sat. ME Bench

4. What kind of workout did you do when you first got into lifting and how old were you?

I did mostly a circuit training and or some bodybuilding routines. I got smart eventually and learned what works and what doesn’t.

5. What kind of powerlifting workout did you do when you first started competing?

I do mostly Westside and add in some of my own stuff that seems to work really well for me.

6. What kind of powerlifting equipment (bench shirt, squat suit, etc.) do you use?

Titan and Rage bench shirts. Metal and Leviathan squat suits. Max DL for Deadlifts.

7. What powerlifting equipment would you like to try?

Metal Pro Briefs with the Metal Suit

8. What is the best advice anyone has ever given you about lifting?

Don’t ever get to the point where you think you know everything and always be willing to learn.

9. What is the worst advice you’ve ever been given?

None. I don’t accept advice from idiots.

10. What is the worst injury you’ve had and what did you do to overcome it?

Cracked C-3 disc in neck. Cracked L-4 disc in back. Broken Ribs. Broken Jaw. Fractured Cranium. Broken Nose. Ripped and tore ligaments in right knee. Slight Kidney rupture. Fractured right thumb. Numerous lacerations. Blood poisoning.

Overcoming it? Just keep on living and doing the best you can and try not to cry too much.

11. What is the worst sticking point (on any on the lifts) that you had to overcome and what did you do to correct it? Squat. Still trying to overcome the fear of stepping with the weight on my back. Jorge Bravo and Scott Mecham are going to help me with this. Jorge is a great squatter.

12. What exercises do you believe have increased your bench, squat and deadlift?

A variety of exercises are a must. Chains and Bands. Board Presses and Floor Presses. The amount of effort put into a ME training session will effect the result as much and sometimes more that the exercise itself as long as it is a core ME lift.

13. What does your diet consist of?

FOOD. I love raw fresh fruit and fish and chicken.

14. What kind of supplements do you use?

Protein and Creatine

15. Where do you get your training information?

Many sources. Always looking for new info.

16. What changes would you like to see in powerlifting?

Consolidation into three or less federations with one set of universal rules.

17. If you’ve ever had to cut weight for a powerlifting contest, what did you do?

I would never cut weight. I lose too much strength.

18. Is there anyone you would like to thank?

My crew at WJB. Mike, Eric, Randon, Brad, Jorge and Scott. I would also like to thank all the great people that I have met in the sport. There are too many to name. Of course most of all my wife who puts up with a gym in her house and the traffic of a bunch of big dumb men running around doing annoying things.

I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST IN PRS AND SUCCESSFUL LIFTS. GOOD LUCK
