3. Give us a brief template of your training week.
Tuesday is burrito night- fast, plyo, light followed by Mexican food. Saturday- Heavy
4. What kind of workout did you do when you first got into lifting and how old were you?
Body building, fitness type lifting at age 40
5. What kind of powerlifting workout did you do when you first started competing?
Westside
6. What kind of powerlifting equipment (bench shirt, squat suit, etc.) do you use?
Titan Fury and Karin’s double denim.
7. What powerlifting equipment would you like to try?
Metal
8. What is the best advice anyone has ever given you about lifting?
Think long term. Have a plan.
9. What is the worst advice you’ve ever been given?
Eat myself to oblivion.
10. What is the worst injury you’ve had and what did you do to overcome it?
Relates to health conditions over which I have little control, but I need to be smart and not over-train.
11. What is the worst sticking point (on any on the lifts) that you had to overcome and what did you do to correct it?
400 pound bench. I just kept at it until I got it and the mental barrier went away.
12. What exercises do you believe have increased your bench, squat and deadlift?
Bench- strap-hung presses
13. What does your diet consist of?
Regular food but I diet some every week. I am diabetic and avoid too much carb.
14. What kind of supplements do you use?
Creatine, sometimes
15. Where do you get your training information?
A million places
16. What changes would you like to see in powerlifting?
Ban the squat!
17. If you’ve ever had to cut weight for a powerlifting contest, what did you do?
I have made this known before- I dehydrate and use creatine, sodium, Imodium and lots of food and water to re-hydrate.
18. Is there anyone you would like to thank?
My brother Big Dave. All my training partners in the Big Belly Barbell club-even those without bellies. My wife, who has been much more supportive than most, Dave Edmondson and Gus Rethwisch for much help with WABDL meets and the really great lifters, men and women of Utah.
