UtahPowerlifting is the Utah State chapter of the American Powerlifting Federation (APF) and its brother the Amateur American Powerlifting Federation (AAPF). The APF/AAPF are the American arms of the international World Powerlifting Congress (WPC) and Amateur World Powerlifting Congress (AWPC). All WPC/AWPC rules and regulations apply to the APF/AAPF unless specifically noted. When WPC sanctioned competitions (international meets) are held in Utah they are conducted by UtahPowerlifting under the auspices of the WPC. UtahPowerlifting is responsible for sanctioning, conducting, and overseeing all APF, AAPF, WPC, and AWPC meets occurring in the state. No APF meet may be conducted in Utah without sanctioning from both the UtahPowerlifting and the APF home office. UtahPowerlifting also maintains and publishes the Utah State records.
World Powerlifting Congress
WPC
Established by Ernie Frantz in 1986. The World Powerlifting Congress consists of 46 countries worldwide that participate in an annual World Championships. We provide competitive and outstanding Powerlifting meets, and are successfully known as “a lifter’s organization”. We pride ourselves on the fact that the vast majority of our officials are active lifters who appreciate fair and consistent judging. The WPC supports the interest of the lifter with constant review of the rules.
American Powerlifting Federation
APF
The American affiliate of the international World Powerlifting Congress. Supports the integrity of the individual lifter, allowing the lifter to be judged fairly and consistently and providing quality contests at all levels. This organization allows each competitor the opportunity to enjoy Powerlifting as a positive sport.
Amateur World Powerlifting Congress
AWPC
The Amateur (drug tested) division of the WPC. Developed so that all lifters may compete on the same platform.
Amateur American Powerlifting Federation
AAPF
Developed to bring Amateur (drug tested) lifting to a venue that is already established with the Powerlifting community so that all lifters may compete on the same platform. This is the drug tested division of the APF.
